About the role…
We are looking for a dynamic, self-motivated and proactive scientist who is committed and passionate about developing 21st century solutions to address global food challenges to join our fast-growing team at Inari Ghent. As a Senior Crop Scientist, you will contribute to our soy research pipeline, ranging from the identification of editing targets to the design of editing strategies and characterization of edited plants. The right candidate enjoys a “scale-up” atmosphere and is flexible, shows good judgment, takes initiative and is willing to take on additional tasks and responsibilities as needed to achieve goals and deliverables. Excellent scientific and people leadership skills as well as communication skills are essential for this role as part of an interdisciplinary team.
As a Senior Crop Scientist, you will …
1. Provide scientific and technical expertise and strategic insight to further develop and execute our soy trait discovery activities.
2. Be responsible for the planning, execution and delivery of project objectives, and lead work packages and potentially projects in our soy research pipeline.
3. Manage research associates and/or junior scientists, enabling their professional development and growth.
4. Design, implement, and coordinate scientific experiments, tasks and activities performed by scientists and research assistants, and help with hands-on execution as necessary.
5. Interpret/analyze data, draw conclusions and make recommendations based on the results.
6. Clearly communicate results in written reports and oral presentations.
7. Maintain detailed, accurate and comprehensible records of all experiments and results.
You bring...
1. PhD in Plant Biology, Physiology, Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology or related field or Master in aforementioned fields with 5 years of post-doctoral research experience or equivalent industry experience.
2. Knowledge of and experience with crop biology and plant biotechnology is essential; experience with physiological crop modelling is a plus.
3. Demonstrated scientific leadership and project management skills to independently design, implement, coordinate and drive scientific projects to successful outcomes.
4. People leadership and lateral leadership skills.
5. Knowledge of genome editing technologies.
6. Strong record of independent research supported by peer-reviewed publications and/or patents.
7. Excellent written and verbal communication skills adapted to the needs of the target audience.
8. Ability to thrive and deliver results on goals in a fast-paced, dynamic and highly multi-tasking environment.
9. Pro-active, highly motivated and strong team player with a high degree of independence.
10. Demonstrated innovative, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
11. Excellent time management and organizational skills.
12. Strong coordination skills, with ability to coordinate among cross-functional teams.
