We have an exciting opportunity for a talented Breaking News Reporter to join our team in the South West.
This crucial and exciting role exists to cover the biggest breaking news and emerging stories from the patch and beyond for our six South West sites, supporting each title to ensure audience targets are delivered every month.
You will be prioritising the breaking stories of most interest to our readers which could range from a weather warning to an M5 crash. Some trending/affiliate content writing also may be required.
Our South West titles include BristolLive, DevonLive, CornwallLive, PlymouthLive, GloucestershireLive and SomersetLive.
We’re looking for fresh ideas and new perspectives from people from a wide range of backgrounds. We are looking for candidates who understand the issues that are important to our region’s very many different communities so we can continue to really diversify our content.

This role is home-based but must be within the South West. There will be planned office/hub days for face-to-face working.

Job Description
What will the role involve?
You will find and tell stories about local communities that engage as many readers as possible. You will build communities online and in real life, telling stories in a variety of ways including but not limited to real-time live blogs, articles, video, audio and pictures. You will ensure all content is accurate and always in accordance with IPSO code.
You will publish digital content, sharing and promoting your content utilising social media platforms.
This role will involve weekend (approximately 1 in 5) and evening working, so a flexible approach is required.
The role operates on a shift rotation between the hours of 6am and 10pm.
Qualifications
Who are we looking for?
* An NCTJ (or equivalent) qualification with in depth knowledge of media law
* Ability to create and publish digital content in a fast-paced environment
* Knowledge of the South West
* Identify and react to trending opportunities
* Monitor numerous breaking news channels, multi-task and prioritise while communicating constantly with colleagues via digital platforms
* Passion for live news and a thirst for beating the competition
* 100 wpm shorthand or working towards this
* Being based in and having the ability to travel where the story is in the South West
* Previous experience working a CMS, shooting video and taking pictures
