Job Description:
Role Responsibility
Kent County Council's Strengthening Independence Service is recognized for outstanding support provided by its Social Workers, whose care and commitment shine through their work (Ofsted 2022).
An opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated Senior Practitioner to join the Disabled Children’s Team, covering the South East of the County, including Ashford, Folkestone and Hythe, and Dover districts. Our team comprises Social Workers, Social Work Assistants, and Occupational Therapists, and we pride ourselves on being committed to promoting the welfare of disabled children. We work closely with families and other agencies to provide packages of care and support, ensuring the safety and well-being of disabled children.
The successful candidate will have experience working with Child protection, Child in Need, Children in care/court proceedings, and a passion for working with children with disabilities.
You will serve as a role model for good practice and a champion for your area of expertise. Responsibilities include setting performance expectations, supervising, coaching, and mentoring less experienced staff. You will supervise Social Workers and Social Work Assistants and lead reflective practice sessions within the team.
You will support the team manager, providing cover in their absence, such as chairing team meetings and overseeing team work.
You must be registered with Social Work England, hold a social work degree, and possess substantial and varied experience working with children, their carers, and families. Experience in Children’s Services, including child protection and a thorough knowledge of relevant legislation and policies, is essential.
This position is customer-facing, and the Council has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have sufficient command of spoken English/Welsh to perform the job effectively. Standards are outlined in the Job Description/Person Specification.
This post is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure via the Disclosure and Barring Service and registration as a qualified Social Worker with Social Work England.
