Role Overview: Blackwell Earth Moving is seeking a dedicated Plant Manager to coordinate and deliver key plant resources across our HS2 contract This role is central to ensuring that plant and labour are deployed efficiently to meet production demands.
Key Responsibilities:
Resource Coordination:
* Liaise with Project Managers and Project Leads on plant and labour requirements, creating a schedule for each section.
* Ensure timely procurement and delivery of plant resources to the right locations.
* Manage the allocation of equipment across three work sections to optimize utilization, including site personnel vehicles, bowsers, and greasing trucks.
Maintenance and Servicing:
* Oversee the maintenance, service, and repair of the BEL fleet to minimize downtime.
* Manage gas oil, Ad-Blu, and DERV stocks and distribution.
* Ensure swift action on defects causing equipment park-up and manage the greasing function.
Performance Monitoring:
* Liaise with Production Controllers to review plant operation telematics data and feedback issues to Works Managers.
* Maintain a KPI dashboard on plant performance and downtime, pushing OEMs to ensure minimum standards are maintained.
* Manage machine utilization to ensure hours are equalized across the fleet.
Labour Management:
* Source operators in a timely manner through liaison with HR, plant hirers, and agencies.
* Distribute labour according to the weekly plan and arbitrate where shortages occur.
* Liaise with Works Managers on reallocating spare personnel to cover absences and ensure proper transportation.
About you
Essential:
* Demonstrable experience managing a large plant fleet for major civil engineering projects, preferably including large-scale earthworks.
* Intimate understanding of heavy earthmoving equipment and their maintenance costs.
* Experience managing a team responsible for administrative, operational, and technical functions, with the ability to delegate and empower employees while providing support and coaching as needed.
* Ability to work dynamically and at a fast pace to monitor and manage resources throughout the day to meet production demands.
* Computer literate, including the creation and maintenance of dashboards and other digital metrics.
Desirable:
* Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to develop strong working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
* A good degree of literacy and numeracy.
* Familiarity with plant resale markets and prices.
* A well-established network of OEM and dealer support organizations and individuals.
