Hawkesbury Lodge is a 20 bedded mixed sex rehabilitation unit based within the Longford area of Coventry.
It provides inpatient recovery-based rehabilitation for adults who have been experiencing difficulty with maintaining their mental well being and living in the community. The residents may be admitted from the community or an acute inpatient setting, and through their journey with us are looking to recover the skills, roles, routines and right support to be able to live well.
The role of the Occupational Therapist is integral to the multidisciplinary recovery approach with the residents on their rehabilitation journey. The post offers genuine opportunity to influence and shape how things are done here.
Main duties of the job
To develop, provide and evaluate effective occupational therapy with the residents, and contribute to the maintenance and development of the therapeutic environment within the busy unit.
To work with the residents to identify, achieve and maintain interest in what they want and need to do, and help them continue to grow and develop their potential to the point that they can sustain it in a longer term environment.
Job responsibilities
1. Take a lead role in the development, provision and evaluation of occupational therapy in the rehabilitation and recovery inpatient setting.
2. To ensure occupational therapy makes a significant and specialist contribution to services users recovery and preparation for discharge.
3. To contribute to the assessment of referrals to the rehabilitation service.
4. Assess service users using a variety of occupational therapy assessment tools, specialised observational and communication skills in the domains of daily living, vocation and leisure.
5. Assess impact of mental and physical health needs and neurodiversity on service users functional ability, interaction and emotional regulation.
6. Plan, develop and evaluate need for complex packages of care.
7. To contribute to the maintenance and development of the therapeutic environment and routine within the rehabilitation and recovery inpatient setting.
8. To provide professional leadership, supervision and guidance to identified junior staff (Recovery Support Workers, students).
9. To be responsible for managing high standards of clinical care and maintaining service delivery based on sound clinical and professional judgement.
10. To have a detailed working knowledge of key partnership services and organisations (i.e. acute inpatient, community mental health, voluntary sector, social services, housing), including their eligibility criteria and access procedures, in order to be able to appropriately sign post, work in collaboration and refer on.
11. To ensure effective communication and working relationships with the Multi-Disciplinary Team and other key partners.
12. Provide a learning environment and assessment of practice where required/appropriate for students of all disciplines.

* Diploma/Degree in Occupational Therapy

* Specialist knowledge and application of OT assessments and interventions relevant to adult mental health (MOHO).
* Ability to work autonomously and prioritise own workload
* Comprehensive clinical experience and knowledge of OT models of practice and outcome measures
* Ability to analyse and respond efficiently to complex information/situations

* Experience of working within a range of mental health settings
* Evidence of post graduate training relevant to mental health OT e.g. CBT, SI.
* Substantial post registration experience at a senior level
