The role will be based in our modern open plan office on the outskirts of Exeter with its very good access off the M5 corridor making for an easy commute. We also employ an agile and flexible working strategy allowing staff to work some days at home and flex their working patterns. By its nature the role will also involve a high degree of site based survey work mainly throughout Devon.
The role:
South West Norse is recruiting a Building Surveyor to carry out detailed Condition surveys and asbestos compliance checks on buildings.
Asset condition surveys form the basis of our clients targeting their limited funds on priority issues and for attracting essential funding for much needed repairs, maintenance and improvements. The type of survey can be varied and the Candidate may also be required to prepare schedules of condition, dilapidation claims, planned maintenance programmes and preparation of technical reports. The type and range of property to be surveyed is varied and includes corporate buildings, depots, schools, libraries, let tenanted farms, etc. The Candidate should have knowledge and understanding of the RICS guidance ‘Building Surveys and Technical Due Diligence of Commercial Property’, ‘Surveying Assets in the Built Environment’, and other RICS guidance.
The role will also involve checking the condition of known ACM’s listed on existing asbestos registers. The candidate will need a basic P402 asbestos qualification or at least be prepared to train for the qualification ASAP. The role does not involve taking asbestos samples, however we need to demonstrate to our customers that our surveyors have the competence to assess the condition of known items.
The role will require frequent travel and remote working, mainly within Devon. The Candidate will have a high level of autonomy to plan their own programmes of work and site visits.

You will demonstrate your suitability through:
* Ideally have a degree in a building surveying related subject and will be working towards a Chartered Membership the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).
* Have at least 3 years’ experience in building fabric condition surveying in commercial buildings.
* Knowledge of the Building Regulations, Health & Safety and other relevant construction and building surveying related legislation.
* Hold a minimum of a P402 asbestos qualification.
* Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage and negotiate with all levels of internal and external parties.
* Ability to work independently with minimal support or within a large multi-disciplinary team
