As the Chief Design Engineer, you will hold a key governance role providing strategic direction for technical activities undertaken by the business.
You will lead and develop a small multi-faceted team and have exposure across the whole lifecycle and product groups. You will be leading regular meetings and engagement with customer stakeholders at all levels and will have the opportunity to travel to customer operational bases. The Chief Design Engineer PWR1 and PWR2 role provides a broad variety and an excellent platform to develop and progress through the business.

As the Chief Design Engineer, you will support the Chief Engineer’s role as PWR1 and PWR2 Technical Authority representative, ensuring appropriate technical solutions and product safety are delivered while applying appropriate safety and engineering governance. You will be functionally accountable to the Chief Engineer PWR1 and PWR2.

What you will be doing
With this attractive opportunity, you will get a chance to:
* Provide strategic engineering direction, governance, and endorsement for technical activities undertaken by the business.
* Ensure that design, procurement, installation, configuration management, development, and operation are undertaken in accordance with the appropriate standards and processes.
* Liaise with DBU Engineering Managers if the technical solution or product change being pursued by their programme is at variance with current policy or processes.
* Take the engineering lead on emergent technical issues and ensure that the Safety Alert and Red Top Process is implemented as necessary.
* Represent the Chief Engineer in discussions with customers and other stakeholders.

To be successful in this role, you will need to:
* Technical Leadership experience in a highly regulated environment (Defence/Nuclear/Aerospace/Oil and Gas).
* Knowledge of product technical attributes, lifecycle requirements, product safety, and regulatory requirements.
* Experience dealing with customers and senior stakeholders in meetings/reviews/committees.
* Project Management capabilities and experience.
* Relevant Science/Engineering degree.

To work for the Rolls-Royce Submarines business, an individual has to hold a Security Check clearance. Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if you do not currently have this in place.
