An exciting new opportunity has arisen for a Legal Counsel to join a global publisher, where you will be part of a tight-knit team who value collaboration and cohesion. This role will support across divisions by providing legal assistance and advice on a broad range of commercial, intellectual property, publishing law and integrity matters. Their office is based in Central London with hybrid work arrangements on offer (2 days minimum).
Reporting to the Regional General Counsel, key responsibilities will include:
* Reviewing, negotiating and drafting a broad range of commercial and publishing agreements including B2B/B2C terms, sales and vendor contracts, author and distribution agreements, and technology contracts.
* Supporting senior lawyers in dealing with defamation claims and integrity matters.
* Provide advice relating to commercial and consumer law, intellectual property matters including copyright, licensing and integrity with respect to the use of AI.
* Identifying ways to ensure compliance with relevant regulations including GDPR and the Consumer Rights Act.
* Providing clear, practical and robust advice which facilitates business needs whilst mitigating key risks and challenges.
* Working collaboratively and proactively with other global members of the Legal team to promote best practices across the business.
The ideal candidate will have the following skills and attributes:
* UK-qualified lawyer with 2-4 years’ PQE gained in private practice or within an in-house environment (however all candidates will be considered on merit).
* Prior experience in the Publishing, News, Media or Digital/Technology industries will be favourable.
* Strong knowledge of contract law, intellectual property, and AI.
* Strong analytical and technical drafting abilities with a keen attention to detail.
* Ability to demonstrate a positive commercial and solutions-focused approach in dealing with a variety of global legal issues.
* Excellent communication skills (verbal, written and presentation).
* Confident and calm under pressure, adaptive and resilient to changes, with a positive can-do attitude.
