Job Summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Sister / Charge Nurse post in our multispecialty Day Surgery Unit at Wharfedale Hospital.
The post holder will support the Senior Sister with the clinical and operational management of the unit, promoting further development of services and utilisation.
The successful candidate will be dynamic, hardworking, exhibit excellent standards in communication and be wholly committed to providing the very best patient care. They will possess the ability to remain calm and professional under pressure.

The post holder will be supported in their professional development and will have the opportunity to develop skills in leadership and management.
This post requires flexible shifts and night duty if required. The unit is currently open 5 days and 3 nights per week, with extended opening requiring twilight shifts for afternoon day cases.

Main duties of the job
The jobholder will play an essential role assisting Senior Sister/Charge Nurse in teaching the nursing teams throughout the 24 hour period.
As an experienced nurse, the jobholder will co-ordinate activities on the ward/dept ensuring effective communication is maintained at all times, providing support to qualified and unqualified nurses within the ward/dept. He/she will play a key role in the assessment of patient care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care.
The jobholder will act as a role model, promoting quality evidence-based practice, developing the nursing team and ensuring effective management of the ward/department in the absence of the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse.
Job responsibilities
The jobholder will play an essential role assisting the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse with the 24 hour continuing responsibility for the effective and efficient management of the ward/department. They will contribute to the provision of professional, clinical, managerial leadership and supervision for the nursing team. The jobholder is responsible for helping to develop and maintain a ward or department's philosophy that has the patient at the centre of compassionate, safe and quality care delivery. By assisting with managing the administrative and financial aspects of the ward, the jobholder will support the cost-effective use of resources.
