A unique opportunity has arisen to join a prestigious global non-life insurance organization as their Chief Property Treaty Underwriter at their London office. This is a senior, high-profile role reporting directly to the Chief Executive and Deputy Chief Executive. You will work closely with a small, dedicated team to underwrite a diverse and worldwide portfolio (excluding the USA and Canada) and represent the organization at the Lloyd’s Underwriting Box, conferences, and client meetings.

Key Responsibilities:
Underwriting Expertise:
* Assess and underwrite risks within agreed authority levels.
* Develop pricing models and templates for robust capital returns.
* Monitor claims and market trends to ensure competitive and accurate pricing.
Client Engagement:
* Foster strong relationships with brokers and clients in alignment with the business plan and risk appetite.
* Represent the organization at client meetings, conferences, and events (domestically and internationally).
Operational Excellence:
* Oversee the administration of underwriting files, data entry, and systems updates.
* Collaborate with internal teams such as claims, finance, and compliance, as well as external auditors.
* Provide input on outward reinsurance purchases and assist in crafting management reports.
What We’re Looking For:
Educational Background:
* ACII qualification is essential.
* Proficiency in Excel (lookups, IF functions, Pivot Tables).
* Fluency in English is required; additional fluency in other major languages (e.g., French, German, Spanish, or Japanese) is an advantage.
Experience:
* Extensive experience in the London insurance and reinsurance market, particularly in senior underwriting roles.
* Strong knowledge of European and Asia-Pacific markets and broker networks.
* Familiarity with catastrophe modelling techniques and tools.
* Proven ability to price and assess underwriting submissions across cycles.
Soft Skills:
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
* Ability to work under pressure, think creatively, and adapt to evolving demands.
* Demonstrated leadership ability and a team-oriented mindset.
Salary:
The role is offered with a salary of circa £130-140k per annum, reflecting the small-to-medium size of the company’s current underwriting book. Therefore, the position is ideally suited to someone managing a similar-sized portfolio, or potentially someone either looking to step up or transition away from a large high pressure corporate environment.
