Description Job title: Degree Apprentice Systems Engineer Location: Frimley Salary: We offer a competitive salary with annual increases throughout the apprenticeship and a range of employee benefits including, free higher education as well as access to the Company pension and share saving scheme What you’ll be doing: The primary role of a Systems Engineer is to design, develop and test designs and solutions, which can extend from components and equipment to more complete and complex integrated systems. You will be part of the Integrated Combat Systems Engineering community, and contribute to the Submarines programmes, ensuring these are delivered to time, cost and quality requirements. During this 4 year Degree (Level 6) apprenticeship programme, you will have the opportunity to engage in a wide and exciting range of activities, from detailed requirements and performance analysis, generation of test procedures and reviewing of evidence. To writing technical specifications and contributing to the ongoing development and qualification of vital submarine structures, systems and equipment. You will apply your knowledge of electronics and of embedded software to the design of circuits or devices that provide a useful function, that are capable of being manufactured at a competitive cost, and that are reliable and safe in use. You will be enrolled in the Embedded Electronics Engineering apprenticeship programme; your first year will spent gaining the essential foundation academic knowledge required for your role. You will then continue your academic journey, and gain exposure to different areas of Integrated Combat Systems by undertaking a variety of placements, where you will undertake a range of engineering activities to become proficient in your role. During these placements, you will work with integrated teams and start building a professional network of contacts. You will apply your knowledge of engineering process and practices, and use and interpret engineering data and documentation such as engineering drawings, reports and computer generated models and be expected to work both individually and as part of an Engineering team, often comprising several disparate Engineering disciplines. The Submarines team: Our Submarines business has been safely delivering world class submarines to the UK Royal Navy for more than a century. The Astute class will equip the Royal Navy with its largest and most capable generation of attack submarines. We are responsible for the design, build, test and commissioning of these state-of-the-art vessels. In total, seven boats will make up the fleet, each weighing a mighty 7,400 tonnes. Dreadnought is the successor to the Vanguard class of nuclear deterrent submarines. We will deliver four submarines to the Royal Navy, with the first submarine entering service in the early 2030s. Qualification requirements 5 GCSE A-C or 9-4 (or equivalent) Including Maths, English & Science or Technical Subject A minimum of 96 UCAS Tariff Points (240 point old system)(excluding UCAS points gained at AS level) achieved from either: – 3 A levels at grade C or above. One subject must be Maths and one subject must be in Engineering, Science or a Technical subject. – An Engineering based L3 Extended BTEC Diploma (which meets the required UCAS points) or equivalent.
