The Royal Society of Chemistry has an exciting opportunity for a Commissioning Editor to join our Books team in a dynamic, fast moving publishing environment.

Although this role is contractually based at our Cambridge office, you will be able to work from home within the UK, with the expectation that you will attend the office as needed for your role.
As Commissioning Editor, you will work within our Books Commissioning team on books from concept through to publication. You will commission book titles in the chemical sciences in accordance with our strategic plans, working closely with authors, editors and reviewers, assess projects for publication and ensure that these are marketed effectively to end users.
In this role it is expected that you will attend the office an ad-hoc basis. If you need flexible working arrangements, please outline this in your application.

We are looking for:
1. Experience of commissioning and acquiring content.
2. A good honours degree in science (chemical science normally preferred) or relevant STM publishing experience is essential.
3. Excellent communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills and proven ability to work in a team.
4. Previous experience of working with academics and/or members of the scientific community
5. Good organizational skills with the ability to work under pressure and to meet deadlines.
6. Ability to work with minimal supervision and be responsible for own workload.
7. Willingness to travel nationally and internationally.
8. Postgraduate experience and/or practical experience in STM publishing is desirable.
