Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation are pleased to announce that we are recruiting a Senior Nurse - Practice Placement Facilitator for the Professional Nursing and Education Team.
Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust partners with Coventry University at Scarborough, Teesside University, The Open University, University of Sunderland, University of York, and York St. John University to support nursing students and nursing apprentices. You will be joining a team that already has strong working relationships with partner universities and continues to focus on improving the nursing student and nursing apprentice's experiences in the trust.
The team works with NHS England to consider and overcome risks to nurse education and the future nursing workforce. This has allowed for involvement in regional developments focussing on increasing placement capacity and introducing simulated learning into a mental health environment.
Main duties of the job
To lead and support the delivery of practice-based education for pre registration nursing programmes and student nursing associate (SNA) programmes and registered Nurse degree apprenticeships.
To support assessors, supervisors, student nurses and trainee nursing associates in the clinical practice areas offering supervision and developmental advice in line with the NMC Professional Code of Conduct and the Higher Education pre registration curricula.

The post holder will join the team which includes a Head of Professional Nursing and Education, Senior Nurse - Practice Placement Facilitators and a Senior Administrator.
There will be opportunities to work closely with partner universities, other NHS Trusts, Primary Care Networks, and NHS England. As a Senior Nurse - Practice Placement Facilitators there will be opportunities to visit partner universities, to continue to build on working relationships and to visit different sites in the trust to engage with staff, nursing students and nursing apprentices.

Job responsibilities
To lead and support the delivery of practice-based education for pre registration nursing programmes, Trainee Nursing Associate (TNA) programmes and Registered Nurse Degree Apprenticeships (RNDA)
To deputise for the Head of Professional Nursing and Education in pre registration education forums as required.
To lead links with higher education (HE) providers of pre-registration education for the trust.
To lead on any pre-registration nursing initiatives in partnership with HE providers, the Trust and Local Education and Training Boards (LETBs).
To lead on the development of provision for professional requirements for new nursing registrants and nursing associates.
To promote at all times a positive image of people with mental health conditions and learning disabilities.
To promote at all times a positive image of the Directorate of Nursing and Governance and the wider Trust.
To co-ordinate the practice-based education placements for preregistration nurse education across the Trust and its links service providers in other agencies used for pre-registration learning.
To support assessors, supervisors, student nurses and trainee nursing associates in the clinical practice areas offering supervision and developmental advice in line with the NMC Professional Code of Conduct and the Higher Education pre registration curricula.
To work in partnership with the service managers, Higher Education Providers and the LETB Workforce Development Team to facilitate the continued development and maintenance of high-quality practice placements for pre- registration student nurses, registered nurse degree apprentices and trainee nursing associates.
To lead the development of clinical placements and assessor and supervisor capacity.
To monitor and contribute to the development of pre-registration curricula and practice-based learning.
To co-ordinate and support the schemes within the Trust for the recruitment of student nurses and trainee nursing associates and retention of suitably qualified health care assistants for development to registration.
To represent the Directorate of Nursing and Governance at education forums relevant to pre-registration professional education
To deliver educational programmes and coaching in the clinical areas on topics relevant to the development of practice-based education
To link with the medical, psychology and Allied Health Professionals pre-registration education staff to develop inter-professional learning models within the Trust.
To co-ordinate links with the academic staff providing tutorial input to the practice placement areas and co-ordinate support and point of contact communication.

Essential
1. Is fully literate and able to communicate clearly complex information verbally, in legible writing and electronically in appropriate formats.
2. Has highly developed specialist knowledge in the area of pre-registration nursing and in the theory of higher education provision
3. Has an understanding of curriculum development and practice-based education, including models of practice placement.
4. Is fully knowledgeable in all aspects of NMC registration, including Revalidation: Competencies, including Essential Skills Clusters: Standards for Learning and Assessment and Codes of Conduct.
5. Has knowledge and understanding of confidential information management.
Desirable
6. Has knowledge of national reviews of pre-registration nurse education and student nursing associate programme.
7. Has overview of national and local nursing workforce agenda
8. Has knowledge of pre and post registration education commissioning arrangements.
Qualifications
Essential
9. RNMH / RNLD, current professional registration with NMC
10. Can demonstrate training in the acquisition of specialist knowledge of pre-registration education to post graduate level.
11. Can demonstrate supervisory training to graduate level or equivalent
12. Has a competency-based teaching qualification
13. Can demonstrate experiential training in the use of audit and quality monitoring
Desirable
14. Holds a registration with the NMC as a nurse educator.
15. Can demonstrate post graduate education at Masters level.
Experience/Skills
Essential
16. Can demonstrate experience of curriculum development and consultation.
17. Can demonstrate experience of student nurse, registered nurse degree apprentice and trainee nursing associates assessor and supervisor support, including triennial review.
18. Has been involved in the development of policy and supportive teaching programmes.
19. Has substantial experience in working in partnership with higher education providers and LETB links.
20. Can demonstrate delivery of education and training programmes
21. Has work experience in nursing in areas that supported student nurse and trainee nursing associate education
22. Can demonstrate experience in the use of Audit programmes and quality monitoring.
Desirable
23. Can demonstrate experience of direct teaching of student nurses and trainee nursing associates.
24. Is able to present and/or deliver workshops to promote best practice at local regional and national level.
