About us
At Longdue, we’re dedicated to crafting narrative-first, psychologically deep, RPGs.
We focus on creating games with real depth—whether in our characters, environments or the stories we tell. We’re here to challenge your choices, your morality—everything you think you know. We’re here to make games where decisions matter and have consequences. We want to build on the legacy of classic story-driven RPGs while reviving the genre meaningfully.
Our goal is simple: to become a trusted name in the greater RPG canon.
With talent from the original Disco Elysium team and veterans from the wider industry, including Bungie and Rockstar, we’re creating something new—a project that resonates, challenges, and leaves a lasting mark.
We’re Longdue, and we’re finally here.
The role
We are seeking an Art Director (a founding member), who will be responsible for establishing the visual direction of our project, leading all artistic efforts, and building an exceptional art team to bring our game world to life. This is a unique opportunity to shape the creative vision of a narrative-heavy RPG from the very beginning and build a cohesive visual style that complements our story. We’re looking for someone who has a deep passion for video game art, extensive experience across different artistic disciplines, and the ability to inspire and lead a team.
Responsibilities
* Lead the effort in establishing the visual direction for the project. Collaborate closely with key stakeholders, the narrative director, and writers to gather input, define the visual language, and maintain a cohesive style throughout development.
* Recruit, hire, and develop a talented art team. Provide mentorship and guidance, ensuring each team member is supported in their role and empowered to deliver their best work.
* Ensure that all art assets are cohesive and maintain a consistent visual style, from concept art to final animations. Set quality standards and provide regular feedback to keep the artistic vision unified.
* Work closely with writers, designers, and other departments to ensure that the visuals complement and enhance the game’s narrative themes and storytelling.
* Create both short-term and long-term plans for the production of art assets, allocate resources effectively, and manage the iteration process to ensure a smooth workflow and timely delivery.
* Develop multiple visual versions during the concept phase, present them to key stakeholders, and refine them based on feedback to establish a unified art direction.
* Create an inspiring, open, and creative environment that encourages your team to push creative boundaries and achieve the highest visual quality.
Requirements
Must-have
* Proven experience as an Art Director or Senior Artist in the video game industry, with a portfolio that showcases your ability to create and maintain a visual style across a large-scale project.
* Experience in hiring, mentoring, and building an art team from scratch, as well as managing team growth and performance.
* Strong ability to define and articulate a visual style and communicate it effectively to stakeholders and team members. You should be capable of turning abstract ideas into tangible visual elements.
* Experience managing artistic workflows, understanding content production cycles, and making key decisions that maintain quality while meeting production timelines.
* Ability to work effectively with other disciplines to ensure a unified creative vision across all aspects of the game.
Nice to have
* A deep understanding of visual trends in the gaming industry and a passion for narrative-driven games is a plus.
* Expertise in concept art, 2D modelling, UI design, or animation. While this role focuses on directing, hands-on experience in art production is highly valuable.
* A passion for visual storytelling, with the ability to use art to enhance the narrative and evoke emotions.
* Experience working in different artistic styles and a willingness to experiment and adapt to a novel visual direction.
* A genuine curiosity to learn new tools, techniques, and approaches in all aspects of game art. A willingness to explore different aspects of game development to enhance team understanding.
