About Us This is an opportunity to join the Vale of Glamorgan Council’s Communications Team. Working in a fast paced, creative environment at the heart of the organisation the team are responsible for all aspects of internal and external communication. This includes media relations, managing the Council’s social media accounts and developing the organisation’s website and intranet. As a member of the team you’ll need to work closely with senior leaders and the political executive of the Council to keep residents informed of our work, while also working to engage Vale residents in improving the services we provide. You’ll also support colleagues working across a range of services to help make sure their work gets the recognition it deserves. About The Role You will: Provide support for the Communications Team, including working with digital media, liaising with the media and general administration. Monitor the press and social media on a daily basis. Assist maintaining and developing content for the Council’s internet and intranet sites Assist with developing content for the Council’s social media channels. Assist with developing and delivering both online and face-to-face public engagement activities. Assist with handling media enquiries and writing and issuing news releases Assist with arrangements for and at media interviews and photo calls. Assist with internal and external events. Work effectively as a member of the team to contribute to campaign planning. About You You will have: Excellent written and verbal communication skills; a talented writer, able to write lively and engaging copy for a variety of audiences Good spelling and use of grammar. An accurate and detail conscious worker. Excellent ICT skills and an effective user of the Microsoft Office 365 suite and other software applications. High level of interpersonal skills. Ability and confidence to work effectively with a variety of contacts. An interest in digital communications, especially social media. An interest in public engagement Ability to work on own initiative, to prioritise workloads and work under pressure. Knowledge of, and interest in, current affairs and the media. Knowledge of, and interest in, creative industries. Experience in working in a busy environment. An appreciation of the role and remit of local government. Enjoy working with the written word, with ambitions to work in public relations, marketing or as part of a news or editorial team.
