Teaching Assistant – PMLD School (East London)
Position: Teaching Assistant
Location: East London
Salary: £90–£100 per day (depending on experience and qualifications)
Contract Type: Full-Time, Term-Time Only
Start Date: ASAP.
The Role:
As a Teaching Assistant at an East London PMLD school, you’ll play a vital role in supporting students throughout their day – from engaging in classroom activities to providing personal care. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is patient, caring, and keen to develop their skills in SEN education.
Key Responsibilities:
* Support students 1:1 or in small groups with a focus on sensory learning and communication.
* Assist with personal care (toileting, feeding, mobility) in a respectful and compassionate manner.
* Help implement personalised learning plans under the guidance of class teachers and therapists.
* Use specialist resources such as PECS, Makaton, switches, and sensory equipment.
* Create a calm, safe, and stimulating environment for learning.
* Work collaboratively with staff, therapists, and families to ensure holistic support for each student.
Ideal Candidate:
* Experience working with children or young people with PMLD, SLD, or complex needs.
* Comfortable with providing personal care and supporting physical needs.
* A positive, resilient, and empathetic nature.
* Understanding of or willingness to learn alternative communication methods (e.g., Makaton, AAC).
* Team player who’s committed to creating inclusive learning opportunities.
* Relevant qualifications (e.g., CACHE/NVQ Level 2 or 3) are beneficial but not essential.
* Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply.
