Role overview:
The Principal Consultant is a key strategic leader within the firm whose ultimate objective is to successfully guide clients through complex challenges in natural resources and economic development. In practice, this means leading multidisciplinary teams, forging strong client relationships, and collaborating closely with Ergo Partners to translate intricate scopes of work into insightful, actionable solutions that deliver genuine value for our clients.
The role carries accountability for both project success and the consulting team's performance and progression. The ideal candidate brings substantial consulting experience, skilfully blending strategic vision, technical expertise, and business acumen with hands-on project and team management.
Ergo seeks to retain and promote high performers: a strong performance as Principal Consultant and increasing accumulation of experience will open the door to become an Associate Partner within the firm.
Responsibilities:
Project management and delivery
* Taking the lead role in global assignments across a variety of disciplines, including agriculture, tourism, energy, mining, and economic development. While specific sector-expertise is useful, we are looking for an inquisitive and strategic thinker who can operate across sectors.
* Reporting directly to an Ergo Partner, the role involves ultimate accountability for project scoping, research, analysis, and report production. Individual projects may last from two weeks to six months. Ability to manage a cross-functional team and coordinate output from individual team members is essential to the position.
* Ergo produces analyses that are clear, concise, and compelling, with PowerPoint as our primary reporting format. We are looking for someone with strong slide production skills, ideally with a consulting background, who can deliver industry-leading reports with precision and efficiency.
Relationship building
* The opening offers an opportunity to join a unique team of highly motivated and creative professionals. The Principal Consultant is a senior position in the structure of the firm and involves mentoring and supporting the professional development of junior team members.
* You will collaborate closely with Ergo Partners, to work through issues related to specific assignments and to participate in decisions related to the overall direction of the firm. You will take business development responsibilities seriously, including identifying and responding to tenders, scoping follow-on work with existing clients, and developing a network within the industry.
* In the role, you will increasingly lead relationships with clients. Ergo has an exciting portfolio of projects and customers across multiple continents – spanning some of the largest global corporations, the main global multilateral agencies, as well as governments.
Essential skills:
* A problem-solver, comfortable with both theoretical thinking and practical project implementation, who can articulate concepts with clarity and translate them into actionable deliverables.
* Experienced in bringing a consulting-standard approach to slide production and storytelling.
* A confident presenter, skilled in delivering compelling presentations to clients and senior stakeholders.
* An excellent writer, capable of producing clear, concise, and compelling reports and presentations.
* Highly numerically literate and capable of navigating their way through numbers and spreadsheets.
* A proven leader with strong team management capabilities, including coaching and mentoring team members to deliver highest-quality deliverables and support their professional growth.
* Experienced in business development, with the ability to identify and pursue new opportunities, build client relationships, and contribute to proposal development.
* Genuinely excited about working on international projects with clients and governments worldwide, with global mobility and periodic travel required.
Experience and qualifications:
* Master’s degree in economics, international development, business, engineering, or relevant disciplines.
* At least five years’ professional experience in consulting and/or project management.
* Previous industry experience in the natural resources sector – i.e., agriculture, energy, mining, environment, etc.
* Ergo operates in English but produces work across multiple languages. Multilingual skills are an advantage.
