Serco has been awarded a major contract by the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) to deliver Electronic Monitoring Services across England, Scotland, and Wales. The contract is valued at £187 million over six years.
This initiative supports offender monitoring and aims to enhance public safety by integrating a data-driven, technology-led approach. The services include managing the installation, removal, and monitoring of electronic devices.
We are looking for a Head of Business Support to join our Electronic Monitoring team. Reporting into the Contract Director you will work closely with the contract leadership team, client, stakeholder community and J&I Support Services to ensure that the overall client requirements are understood and delivered compliantly.
As Head of Business Support, you will be responsible for delivering to group and divisional standards, whilst driving an operational culture of compliance, assurance, and performance improvement along with employee engagement.
You will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of the contract, being a key conduit between the client, business support, and the contract operations.
Your main responsibilities:
- Be a key influencing figure in the contract leadership team to ensure that operational services are implemented, maintained, and transformed as per the overall solution.
- Develop, agree, and manage departmental area annual budgets and monthly accounts as cost effectively as possible, contributing to the efficiency of the contract, division and wider business.
- Ensure that all programme activities align with the goals, objectives, social value and regulatory requirements of the organisation and relevant authorities.
- Collaborate with stakeholders, and other relevant partners to establish effective working relationships, closely manage technology vendors and service providers to ensure the availability, stability, and functionality of electronic monitoring systems.
- Implement quality control measures to ensure accurate and reliable monitoring data and compliance information.
- Prepare regular reports and documentation on programme outcomes, trends, and challenges for internal and external stakeholders.
- Ensure that all areas of responsibility comply and meet all Health and Safety regulations.
- Lead and manage the business support team, ensuring high standards of service delivery.
- Encourage and develop a training and development culture and strategy in line with business requirements, ensuring staff are competent in their roles and developed in line with business and individual objectives.
What you’ll need to do the role:
- You will have experience working as a Head of Business Support or similar within a criminal justice or public safety sector.
- Experience of managing large multi-disciplinary teams at a Senior Management level.
- Knowledge of modern business practices, issues, and trends, together with knowledge of legislative provisions and standards applicable to a commercial environment.
- Knowledge of contract structures and experience of contributing to the processes of strategic and business planning at a high level.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and an ability to liaise and negotiate at all levels.
- IT literate with demonstrable ability to innovate and identify and deliver operational improvement through IT solutions.
- Educated to degree level or equivalent (CMI qualification advantageous).
- Ability to travel (a valid UK driver’s licence is essential)
The role may require regular office hours, but flexibility in schedule might be necessary due to the nature of the position, which could involve responding to urgent situations.
