The post suits a Speciality Doctor in Breast Surgery with experience to run breast clinics (rapid diagnosis one stop, results and follow up). The focus will be to work collaboratively with the existing team and to manage the rising cancer 2 week wait referrals and treatment to target times. This post has no General Surgery commitments. The post holder is expected to work closely with the Breast Multidisciplinary team providing and further developing care of breast patients and further develop breast services. The post holder will be expected to attend and participate in the Breast MDT and clinical and management meetings. Please note that, the focus of the role is running outpatient clinics, ward referrals and perioperative care. At present, we are not able to offer time in theatres except on an ad-hoc basis when some team members are absent. Clinical governance is assuming ever greater importance within the NHS and there is strong emphasis on this area within PAH. The appointee will be expected to contribute and participate in governance activities in depth and breadth. A strong desire to improve governance standards is essential. The post holder will be expected to carry out audit and activities in association with the clinical governance as required by the Trust. The appointee has continued clinical and professional responsibility for patients admitted under their care. The post-holder will have an overriding duty of care to patients and will be expected to comply fully with best practice standards. The post-holder will have a responsibility to comply with Trust policies for personal and patient safety and for prevention of healthcare-associated infection (HCAI); this includes a requirement for rigorous and consistent compliance with Trust policies for hand hygiene, use of personal protective equipment and safe disposal of sharps. Knowledge, skills and behaviour in the workplace should reflect this; at annual appraisal you will be asked about application of practice measures known to be effective in reducing HCAI.
