This position is primarily responsible for the regional/business-specific sites for the development, implementation and ongoing/day-to-day support of Cabot’s Process Safety Standards, Process Safety Management (PSM) and Risk Management Plan (RMP), ATEX, etc. to assure compliance with Cabot’s requirements, OSHA, EPA and local process safety requirements (as required). The job holder reports to the Safety, Health & Environmental Director who is based in EMEA. There are two other regional safety managers, one for Asia Pacific and one for North and South America. The Safety, Health & Environmental Director reports to the SVP SHE & Sustainability. The regional Process Safety Manager will actively contribute to support the Corporate SHE & Sustainability team goals. The EMEA Process Safety Manager will work closely with the other regional PSM managers and report to the Process Safety Steering Committee. The job holder is accountable for regional/business-specific performance within the overall team-based environment including both technical and behavioral competencies while maintaining the spirit of Cabot Corporation’s Visions and Values. Lead and drive Process Safety Management (PSM) program implementation improvements by sharing and facilitating best practices among different plants and by creating the best means and/or channels for communications to serve this purpose. Provide training to employees and contractors (as required) to assure understanding and compliance with Cabot Process Safety Standards and the requirements of local process safety requirements (e.g., ATEX, PSM/RMP programs). Assist plants in leading Process Hazards Analysis (PHA) for major risk projects by providing expert support in PHA methodologies. Review results of all PHAs for quality and thoroughness. Track and follow-up of action items/completion to ensure timing solution of any findings from PSM audits, PHA studies and other PSM assessment activities. Report regional and corporate management priorities and track improvements and activities performed by business/regional PSM initiatives. Participate in Operational Preparedness Verifications (OPVs) Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSRs) prior to startup of new or modified processes or equipment or after extended shutdown of equipment. Review all sites PSSRs for quality and completeness. Participate in Process Safety Event investigations / root cause analysis to provide guidance to all plants. In conjunction with site management teams, track progress of corrective actions where business wide issues are identified. Provide leadership and guidance for local process safety requirements (e.g., ATEX, PSM/RMP programs) to ensure compliance and consistency across plants. Responsible for analysis and reporting of leading and lagging process safety indicators, and Accountable for driving improvement by implementation of appropriate actions and countermeasures. Detailed knowledge of local regulations (e.g., OSHA PSM, ATEX, EPA RMP, etc.) Trained PHA Facilitator/Leader Proven ability to lead teams, influence operations, and build consensus opinions Incident investigation and Root Cause Analysis techniques Experience with using and leading process hazard analyses studies by various techniques is require. Able to travel to other facilities as necessary Education/Experience Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required. Preferred discipline in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering. Minimum of 7 years plant experience with a broad technical understanding of plant operations preferable in Carbon Black operations.
