The Senior Safeguarding Nurse / Practitioner role is a visible and knowledgeable resource and support to patient facing staff across the Trust. They will work alongside trust staff developing safeguarding competence and confidence in safeguarding with a focus on improving patient outcomes.
They will use their own robust knowledge to support staff through advice, guidance, supervision and training keeping the six principles of safeguarding at the forefront of their interactions.
They will contribute to the safeguarding agenda through the provision of evidence based safeguarding advice, support, guidance, supervision and training for all disciplines of staff across all trust sites.
Main duties of the job
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Provide specialist safeguarding advice, support and guidance to a range of professionals across the trust.
2. Work within the trust policy providing regular 1:1 and group safeguarding adults supervision across the trust.
3. Work within a 'Think Family' model of safeguarding, routinely considering children at risk of harm when adult patients attend.
4. Support and develop staff in the management of all aspects of complex and serious safeguarding activities, including attendance at strategy discussions and complex case meetings, MARAC meetings and MASH/MARM referrals.
5. Provide advice and support in relation to the Mental Capacity Act (2005), Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) and safeguarding issues.
6. Deliver high quality, evidence-based safeguarding training across the Trust, to a wide range of disciplines and participate in the development and evaluation of all training levels 1-3.
7. As delegated by the Operational Lead, provide data and information for internal and external reports including for SAR/DHR/CSPR chronologies and reports.
8. Facilitate programmes of practice and quality improvement with divisional colleagues using learning and recommendations from local and national reviews.

Knowledge and Experience
* Knowledge of the Care Act 2014 and guidance and the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and Code of Practice relating to acute hospital settings.
* Knowledge of the impact of Abuse and Neglect on the health and wellbeing of adults and children.
* Experience of leadership and management.
* Experience of teaching/ training groups.
* Experience of managing complex safeguarding issues.
* Experience of analysis of safeguarding risks involving adults or children.
* Experience of supporting / supervising staff in a health or social care setting.
* Experience of attending safeguarding strategies /case conferences/ participating in protection plans.
* Experience of interagency and/or multi-agency working.
* Direct involvement with change management initiatives.
* Experience of working in a health setting.

Qualifications and Experience
* Registered Health or Social Care Professional for example Nurse, AHP or Social Worker.
* Post registration CPD in relevant area.
* Evidence of professional knowledge in safeguarding.
* Recognised teaching/training qualification.
* Safeguarding supervision training.

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
Salary: £46,148 to £52,809 a year pro rata (depending on past experience and role).
