Job overview
The Scarborough, Hull and York Pathology Service (SHYPS) is seeking an enthusiastic and hard working Medical Laboratory Assistant, to work in our busy, friendly Cellular Pathology laboratory at Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
Based in Hull, your role will be to carry out a wide variety of laboratory based tasks, including equipment maintenance, reagent management and data inputting. The successful candidate would have a supporting laboratory role working alongside qualified Biomedical Scientists.
Main duties of the job
1. To provide support to clinical, scientific and technical staff in the Cellular Pathology Department.
2. To perform basic laboratory procedures, including receiving samples, maintaining equipment, reagent management, stock management and use of the laboratory computer system.
3. To work as a team member liaising with colleagues and managers.
The Cellular Pathology laboratory is based in a purpose built facility at Hull Royal Infirmary, that forms part of an integrated Cellular Pathology service within The Scarborough, Hull and York Pathology Service.

Person specification
Qualifications
* Good basic education - GSCE grades A-C or equivalent in Maths and English
Experience and Knowledge
* Previous experience of working in a Pathology laboratory would be advantageous; however, full training will be provided
* Experience of working within the NHS
Skills and Attributes
* Basic IT skills
* Experience in working in a team and demonstrating effective communication skills.
* Able to demonstrate accuracy and attention to detail.
* Able to concentrate on repetitive tasks for long periods.
DBS Checks
Please be aware that all new employees starting work with us will be charged for the cost of their DBS check if it is required for the role. The cost will be deducted from your salary either in 1 payment or over a six month period once you start employment. By applying you are agreeing to this undertaking. If you are successful you will be asked to confirm if you wish to pay in one amount or in instalments. The charges are currently £27.38 for a standard check and £55.38 for an enhanced check. The level of check will be determined by the post you are applying for.
