Senior New Product Development / NPD Technologist / Food and Beverage Product Developer who has practical hands-on experience with the ability to work within a customer facing new product development technologist role in the food and/or beverage industry is required for a Research & Development Centre based in Shepton Mallet, Somerset, South West England.
SALARY: circa. £35,000 per annum (basic salary) / £40,000 OTE (Project Delivery Targets Met)

We have a fantastic new job opportunity for self-confident, customer facing Senior New Product Development / NPD Technologist / Food and Beverage Product Developer who has practical hands-on experience in the food and beverage industry. As a Senior NPD Technologist / Food and Beverage Product Developer you will be an integral member of the team of food scientists.
Working as the Senior NPD Technologist / Food and Beverage Product Developer your primary focus will be on multifaceted beverage projects, ensuring effective project management and adherence to timelines. In this role, your responsibilities encompass the execution of multiple projects and the generation of innovative concepts rooted in current market trends. Leveraging market data research, you will actively contribute to customer new product briefs, showcasing a good understanding of practical flavour science, stabiliser/emulsifier technology, and general knowledge of labelling legislation.

DUTIES
1. Manage key customers’ accounts confidently and independently for NPD and EPD projects from concept to launch for multiple workstreams.
2. Create and develop innovative recipes, capitalising on new key trends for both NPD and EPD projects.
3. Recipe creation and maintaining all documentation throughout project life cycle – recipe & nutritional sheets, costings, legal labels, submission forms, processing details.
4. Undertake all tasks associated with product development – sample preparation, customer presentation, organoleptic testing, chemical testing, micro review.
5. Responsible for sourcing new ingredients fit for application and based on commercial feasibility (MOQ, lead time, price).
6. Responsible for ensuring lab samples are sent on time.
7. Lead and attend tasting panels for projects including benchmarking sessions.
8. Attend and lead customer development/innovation days as required.
9. Direct communication with key customers, both face to face and written.
10. Work to deadlines in a dynamic work environment ensuring that all key milestones for projects are met.
11. Work closely with process technologist to organise pilot trials, ensure all raw materials are ordered in advance and provide support at pilot stage.
12. Support 1st production at co-packing sites as required.
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
1. Practical hands-on NPD experience, with ability to demonstrate working within a customer facing NPD technologist role in the food industry is essential, ideally with beverage application knowledge.
2. Knowledge and some experience of beverage ingredients, stabilising systems, and their functionality.
3. Excellent organisation and coordinating skills with the ability to perform well under pressure and satisfy a multiple customer base.
4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Confident, articulate, and courteous communicator both verbal and written.
5. Proficient user in all aspects of Microsoft Office, especially spreadsheets.
6. Accuracy, attention to detail and numerate approach to provide information on time in the right format.
7. Competent, adaptable and works on their own initiative.
8. Undertakes tasks with enthusiasm and takes pride in their work.
9. Innovation and creativity with an eye on current and future trends.
10. Good interpersonal skills.
11. Problem solving skills.
12. Minimum of degree level in a relevant scientific subject.
13. Understanding of Basic HACCP Principles; qualified (Level 3 minimum).
14. Knowledge of relevant ingredient legislation, especially labelling.
15. UK full driving licence and own transport to get to site required.
