Job description Key Responsibilities We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced risk and process safety specialist to join the Risk Team in the HSEs Science Division (SD). As a Principal Risk & Process Safety Scientist you will: Lead, develop and oversee research projects to further knowledge and capabilities relevant to HSEs current and /or emerging needs. Build networks within your area of technical expertise to promote and develop collaborative projects. Develop technical solutions and facilitate workshops for risk identification and management of existing and emerging risks. Review and evaluate risk assessments, safety cases and other technical evidence including in support of regulatory aspects. Work with government regulatory bodies to ensure a consistent approach to risk concepts and their implementation. Provide technical/scientific leadership or steering group membership for major international, cross government, cross-organisational research projects, or other scientific initiatives. Write and publish scientific reports and journal articles along with presenting HSEs work at conferences and workshops. Person specification Essential Skills and Criteria Be a recognised expert in one or more aspects of risk assessment and management, particularly in relation to major accident hazards and process safety. Have significant experience in risk management concepts as they are practically applied in industrial applications to aid decision making. Have experience of facilitating hazard and risk workshops/studies Be skilled at leading technical project teams with the ability to coach and mentor colleagues to develop their own technical expertise. Have excellent communication skills and be able to demonstrate a strong record of scientific report writing, technical presentations and networking or collaborating with other technical experts.
