The role: The role is to assist the General Counsel and the broader OGC team of lawyers in the management of the firm’s regulatory risk, including provision of compliance related advice to fee-earners and business services staff, the creation and maintenance of effective policies and processes, and the management of the firm’s insurances, claims and complaints. What will you do: The successful candidate will work to support the OGC function with the following key activities: Reviewing and keeping the firm's risk management policies, procedures, guidance and practice notes up to date (and helping to update the intranet as necessary). Reviewing and commenting on specific engagement terms proposed by clients. Responding to client questionnaires and audits. Reviewing and commenting on contracts with the firm’s suppliers and assisting with the regulatory aspects of our procurement process. Maintaining and updating the firm’s standard engagement letters and terms of business, and regulatory wording (on the website, in disclaimers etc). Managing the firm’s annual insurance renewals calendar and applications processes. Recording, managing and reporting to senior management on the status of the firm's claims and complaints. Managing and updating the Risk Register and Incidents Log. Horizon scanning for legal and regulatory developments and assisting with the implementation of necessary changes. Auditing client files for various regulatory purposes (e.g. AML, SRA rules etc). Assisting with the delivery of mandatory training to the firm. Assisting with specific OGC projects as required, such as responding to SRA questionnaires and audits, helping international offices to create engagement letter templates in our document automation software, establishing processes to comply with specific regulatory obligations or guidance etc. Advising business services staff on regulatory issues arising from the firm’s proposed business projects, and advising fee-earners on their day-to-day regulatory queries. What we are looking for: The applicant must be a qualified solicitor [or legal executive] with a minimum of one year’s experience of working in a compliance role within an international law firm. The applicant should have the following: A good understanding of the professional conduct rules relating to solicitors/law firms and the broader regulatory landscape that they operate in, and an ability to apply this knowledge in the creation and implementation of relevant policies and procedures, the review and drafting of the firm’s contracts, and the provision of compliance advice to the business. A good understanding of the type of work undertaken by the firm and the operations of the various business services functions of an international firm. Excellent drafting skills (policies, guidelines, training, engagement letter wording etc). The confidence and ability to engage with partners, associates and business services staff at all levels, including the delivery of training where appropriate. The ability to work comfortably with different business process IT systems. The ability to work as part of a team but to be strongly self-motivated and proactive and able to progress a piece of work or project with light-touch supervision.
