We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join our friendly and dynamic Surgery Team within the Acute Adult Team at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. The Leeds Way forms the foundation of our culture, our ethos and how we work every day.
The successful candidate will be based at St. James's University Hospital. You will have the opportunity to work with a wide variety of clinical conditions under General Surgery, Colorectal, Gastroenterology, Hepatobiliary/Pancreatic, Urology, Renal and Hepatology/Liver Transplant specialities. We are the regional specialty unit for liver and renal transplants.

Main Duties of the Job
The successful candidate should demonstrate in their application and at interview relevant experience of working within an acute hospital setting including skills in autonomous decision making, acute assessment, and discharge planning. Applicants must have excellent communication, organisational, and leadership skills and must be able to work autonomously under pressure whilst being flexible and adaptable.
The Occupational Therapy Department has excellent supervision structures and support in place. You will be supported with professional development and training is widely available within the Trust. In addition to clinical delivery, you will also gain experience in the supervision of Band 5 Occupational Therapists and/or Band 3 Therapy Support Workers, support student education, and take a leadership role in service development, innovations, and clinical audits with support from Band 7 Occupational Therapy lead.

Job Responsibilities
1. To work within the Occupational Therapy Service, providing effective Occupational therapy intervention to various clinical areas.
2. To manage autonomously a clinical workload at a specialist level: assessing and treating patients and maintaining associated records.
3. To develop and apply specialist knowledge, gained from past experience, on-the-job experience, and specialist training.
4. To provide a patient-focused service following the Occupational Therapy process (screen referrals, assess and plan treatment programmes, implement and evaluate treatment programmes, monitor and discharge) and using Occupational Therapy core skills.
5. To supervise and support Occupational Therapists.
6. To delegate work to, supervise and support Occupational Therapy support staff.
7. To supervise and educate Occupational Therapy students.
8. To act as a specialist Occupational Therapy resource for colleagues, carers, and patients.
9. To be actively involved in team and service developments including audit and research.
