An exciting opportunity has arisen to join University Hospitals Plymouth Maternity Service as a Band 3 Maternity Support Worker (MSW). You will be part of a team working with a dynamic multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality and safe care to women and babies within the maternity unit.
The successful candidate will be a competent individual, working as a member of the maternity team providing care to women and families throughout pregnancy and the postnatal period. The MSW will work under indirect supervision of a registered midwife and be guided by the midwife's expertise. The successful candidate will have excellent communication and IT skills and will be able to work effectively in a demanding and continually evolving environment. Training will be provided to support the role and obtain many additional skills.
Main duties of the job:
* Personal care of women and babies, providing information and advice on self-care, infant care, and initiating support with infant feeding.
* Health promotion, clerical, educational, and housekeeping duties to ensure the smooth running of the maternity team.
* Flexibility to provide a seven-day service, including working Bank Holidays, Long/Short days, and long nights within the inpatient area.
* Proficiency with IT skills to record care being given.

Job Responsibilities
* Be aware of patients' physical, emotional, and social needs and report accurately to the midwife.
* Establish good relationships with patients, relatives, and colleagues ensuring accurate and effective communication.
* Self-manage and organize day-to-day tasks against care delivery plans, adjusting plans in response to service needs.
* Undertake clinical skills as directed by the midwife and report findings accordingly.
* Maintain accurate and legible records as appropriate under the direction of the midwife.
* Contribute to the maintenance of a safe working environment.
Person Specification
Essential Qualifications:
* GCSE Maths (A-C) or equivalent.
* GCSE English (A-C) or equivalent.
* NVQ/QCF level 3 Health and Social care or a care certificate.
Desirable Qualifications:
* Baby Friendly Initiative Standards Training/Equivalent.
