Agriculture sector is the second largest source of emissions, after energy and is a major source of employment in the global south. Most of these farmers are exposed to climate crises due to increasing droughts and flooding, and loss of yield due to heat stress. Increasing carbon in soil leads to enhanced soil health, soil moisture retention, and reduced dependence on agro-chemicals. The challenge is to build technological solutions that have specific climate and socio-economic value thereby allowing agriculture to leap in the global south. As the Research Scientist you will help us develop cutting-edge AI models for transforming the agriculture industry. We are focused on both long-term (quantifying carbon sequestration) and rapidly productionizable (Agricultural Landscape Understanding [ALU], Agricultural Monitoring and Event Detection) research. Our goal is to build a foundation model that will serve as the single, sufficient base for all other downstream applications that use satellite data for predicting surface properties, with a primary focus on those relevant for agriculture.
