Whilst our teams work behind the scenes to develop the future of our energy systems, youâll be out with our engineers in the field delivering the natural gas demands of today. \n\n What youâll be doing \n\nA graduate apprenticeship is a brilliant option if youâre looking to gain a degree whilst hitting the ground running in the world of work. Youâll kick-start your career blending academic study with work-based learning. \n\nAs an Electrical and Instrumentation graduate apprentice, you wonât be sat behind a screen; you'll split your time between learning out on site, working alongside experts solving real-world problems, and attending dedicated training and university days. \n\nYouâll develop a grounding in engineering principles, concepts and theories involving managerial, technical and environmental issues in the modern workplace. Youâll become skilled in instrumentation, measurement and control, providing you with the knowledge, understanding and skills required to become successful professional engineers here at National Gas. Youâll become adept at applying your knowledge and skills to the solution of real-world problems of designing, operating and maintaining our sites. Youâll learn: \n\nHow to use tools and equipment to draw and make things \n\nScience and engineering to comprehend how things work and are controlled \n\nHow to transmit and process signals - and controlling systems using microprocessors \n\nProcess related technical skills are enhanced in areas of control systems, metrology and understanding industrial installations and issues \n\nControl and estimation, batch processing, quality, alarm management and the integration of inter-related systems \n\nBasic process control, fire and gas, safety instrumented, and emergency shutdown systems \n\nManagement and technical skills \n\nWeâll work closely with your university to review your progress at regular intervals, providing feedback and guiding your development. Youâll have a tailored personalised plan that ensures you have appropriate support and training. Check out our guidance below \n\nOur sites are located across the UK & Ireland, so youâll need to be comfortable with travel and overnight stays. This means that youâll need to have obtained a driving licence within a year of starting your apprenticeship (so by September 2027). \n\nYou'll need to have permanent right to work in the UK for the entirety of this programme, as we are unable to offer visa sponsorship for this role. \n\nYouâll need to live within commutable distance of our Livingston or Moffat site. We consider this to be no more than a 30-minute drive. When youâre not at college, youâll be on site.
