The Opportunity This role will be working within our Infrastructure business unit and will predominately focus on our Water Business. Reporting to the Pre-construction Director and working closely with the pre-construction leads within each of the water framework, you will support and provide technical knowledge in opportunities, bids and tendering activities. You will have an overview of the bidding and design development process throughout the pre-construction period, including any ECI and up to main contract execution. Technically review tenders and support the risk review process to ensure that schemes remain within the Companies red lines. Work closely with internal and external design leads to ensure that a compliant and lean design, and subsequently support the development of an efficient price and programme are produced. Working as part of a team with the objective of securing profitable future workload for the business. Utilise process, construction knowledge and commercial experience in conjunction with other members of the bid team to ensure competitive bids. Undertake Risk and Value management during the tender period. The opportunity may be based out of our Alfreton Office What you will be doing Undertake a design assurance role, working closely with pre-construction leads and allocated design managers to ensure due process and diligence is being followed. Review tender stage design provided by the client & highlight deficiencies/areas of risk & opportunity with proposed mitigations/actions. Support Pre-Constructions leads with design development during tender period. Design input into programmes where necessary. Work with design leads to co-ordinate external design resources in conjunction with Framework leads. Liaise with design managers and external designers to identify areas requiring further development to reduce risks when pricing the schemes. Participate in design team meetings – ensuring timely responses from agreed actions. Review/critique relevant sections of Contract Documents. Provide support to the split and strategy of subcontract strategy. Benchmark Design programmes across water frameworks where appropriate. Value engineering throughout the design phase of design and build projects. Presentation / delivery of tenders at tender settlement meetings. Ensure a smooth handover of the project to the operational team. Liaise with the Managing Estimator to ensure timeframes are achieved for the technical and commercial elements of bids. Take the lead on tenders with the client’s representatives establishing win strategy’s and key client drivers for selection. Lead in tender bid settlements together with the appropriate grade of director personnel who can sign off bids. Liaising with other teams – Business Development Manager; Managing Estimator & Estimating team; Construction delivery teams; Design Managers; Planning Manager; and Framework functions. Lead bids and take responsibility for - client liaison during bid; technical bid submissions; lead bid settlement meetings with the appropriate director. What we will need from you Engineering / Construction Management background, ideally chartered with a minimum of 10-years in the water industry. (We are looking for a technically competent individual in the water industry). Excellent technical construction experience from either a design management, commercial or operational background. Professional Accreditation. Knowledge of all forms of contract including traditional, partnering, design & build, 2 stage tenders and frameworks – (NEC & IChemE are essential). Good commercial acumen to support the implementation of the work winning strategy. Personable with excellent communication skills. Demonstrable planning skills with the ability to work alongside our planner team to produce high quality tender, preconstruction, and construction programmes. Creative and innovative approach to problem solving. Demonstrable bid writing / submissions skills. Good written English skills and highly numerate. Extensive knowledge of industry and clients’ specification standards relating to water treatment. Knowledge of BIM. Risk awareness. Competent use of Microsoft Office 365. Presentation skills. Competent leadership skills. Ability to work as a team member, or on own initiative. Attention to detail. Ability to work to tight deadlines. Safety training – SMSTS (Desirable). CSCS Card.
