Job Description:
We have been assigned by one of the UK's more prestigious NHS Trusts to help them recruit a Consultant in Emergency Medicine on either a Substantive or an NHS Fixed Term basis for 12 months to join their successful A&E department.
Our client has over 4,000 staff, they are one of the biggest employers in East of England, supporting the health and wellbeing of the local community. They have 518 beds, 18 wards, a budget of circa £220m and provides a comprehensive range of specialist, acute, obstetrics and community-based services to those who live in the three counties of Norfolk, Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire. They are passionate about our journey of improvement. Their vision is to become the best rural district general hospital for patient and staff experience in the UK.
The successful appointee will be asked to fulfil various responsibilities within the department, these include:
1. Day to day management of a busy ED:
* Reception, resuscitation, diagnosis and initial treatment of patients.
* Regular teaching of medical staff, nurses, ENPs, ACPs and medical students attached to the department, as well as occasional teaching of other staff.
* Participation and organisation of medical and clinical audit.
* Clinical care of patients admitted to the Clinical Observation and Decision Unit.
* Development of a specialist interest will be encouraged within the remit of the department.
In addition, the trust will ask the appointee to fulfil such duties as:
* Responsibilities for carrying out teaching duties as required and for contributing to postgraduate training and continuing medical education activities.
* Professional supervision, appraisal and management of junior medical staff.
* Close communication with local General Practitioners about individual cases, the appropriate use of the department and any urgent problems.
* Liaison with outside agencies such as Police, Fire, Ambulance, District Nursing, Social Services etc, with regard to training, patient care and Major Incident Procedures.
* Participation in the rolling process of clinical governance and audit.
