Main duties and requirements:
1. Positively contribute to the attainment of the Businesses secured workload targets & success rates.
2. Effectively contribute to the preparation of best value tender submissions.
3. Lead our estimating strategy to ensure the bids are well organised, produced in a timely manner and provide sufficient information for the management team to make a valued decision.
4. Mitigate risk during the bid phase through effective risk identification and mitigation strategies (Risk, Opportunity & Assumption register)
5. Provide high level cost advice on emerging opportunities, maintaining database of current market costs.
6. Ensure timely and adequate handover to the Operations team.
7. Advise business on market changes to sub-contractor / material prices in conjunction with the commercial team.
8. Continually seek to improve estimating controls, process and performance.
9. Provide best net cost (supported by market pricing) estimates in a timely and organised manner.
10. Meet tender return deadlines.
11. On receipt of a tender consult with the pre-construction team to assess suitability of the tender and agree whether to provide a bid or decline.
12. Maintain Estimating resource schedules.
13. Agree the bid strategy with the bid team including potential value engineering, the structure of the tender return and important dates for completion of individual tasks.
14. Attend weekly bid team meetings and provide support to the team as required.
15. Prepare bills of quantities.
16. Agree the tender list with the bid team and send out enquiries with sufficient time for the sub-contractors to provide quotations.
17. Fully understand site conditions and constraints.
18. Engage with the sub-contractors through the tender period to ascertain any potential opportunities within the bid along with chasing up tenders to make sure they are received.
