South Lanarkshire Council is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, self-motivated Environmental Health Officer or Food Safety Officer who can accept and tackle demanding goals to ensure effective service delivery.
The successful candidate will be based within our Food and Business Regulation team and must be able to meet the qualification and competency requirements detailed in the Food Law Code of Practice (Scotland) in respect of official controls for food law.
Applicants for the Environmental Health Officer (EHO) post should hold the Royal Environmental Health Institute of Scotland (REHIS) Diploma in Environmental Health or have received confirmation from REHIS of the equivalency of their qualifications. Where applicants consider their qualifications to be equivalent to the REHIS Diploma in Environmental Health, contact should be made directly with the Institute by emailing contact@rehis.com. The Institute will provide details of the assessment process including anticipated timescales and fees for the assessment.
Applicants for the Food Safety Officer (FSO) post should hold The Scottish Food Safety Officers’ Registration Board (SFSORB) Higher Certificate in Food Practice OR Higher Certificate in Food Premises Inspection and Higher Certificate in Food Standards Inspection.
Subject to your qualifications, you will be responsible for undertaking food law inspections, health and safety inspections, accident investigations, dealing with a range of complaints including food complaints, infectious disease surveillance, caravan site licensing enforcement, responding to licensing consultations, and issuing export health certificates.
You will be able to demonstrate excellent computer skills and have the ability to organise your workload in an effective and productive way.
The ability to travel throughout the South Lanarkshire Council area is essential. A council vehicle will be provided.
