Position is 32 hours per week concurrent with the adopted school calendar.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
* Under the supervision of certified teacher(s), prepare for small-group and individual instruction.
* Interprets/translates classroom instruction and individual directions to deaf students; convey instructor’s intent as well as spoken words.
* Uses reverse interpretation relaying questions and contributions from deaf students to instructor, and encourage deaf students to use Standard Sign.
* Assists the classroom instructor in meeting needs of the deaf student(s) and will communicate instructions and other information from the instructor to the deaf student(s).
* Maintain the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of certificated teacher.
* Maintains a positive working relationship with co-workers, staff and the public.
* Participate regularly in staff meetings, in-service programs, workshops and seminars.
* Performs other tasks as assigned by supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications:
* Two years of college and/or A.A. required and/or completion of the ETS test.
* Experience interpreting for the deaf using fluent American Sign Language.
* Ability to work within a team environment.
* Ability to follow directions and to follow through efficiently and independently on assigned tasks.
* Ability to communicate in a professional manner both orally and in writing.
* Evidence of emotional maturity and stability necessary for the specialized work involved.
* Demonstrated sensitivity to cultural, developmental, religious and ethnic diversity of students and community.
* Successful Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation Fingerprint Clearance.
