In addition, the role of a Complex Care Support Worker may also involve periods of lone working and personal care. Main Responsibilities As a Complex Care Support Worker, you will undertake a challenging yet highly rewarding role. Building upon the main responsibilities of a Support Worker, this position entails additional responsibilities and greater accountability. The following list outlines some of your key responsibilities while on assignment; however, it is not exhaustive: Provide person-centred support and assistance to individuals with complex medical needs and challenging behaviours, ensuring their physical, emotional, and social well-being. Monitor and administer medications as prescribed, following proper protocols and maintaining accurate records. Assist with activities of daily living, including personal care, feeding, mobility, and household tasks, while promoting independence and self-care skills. Support individuals in accessing medical appointments, therapies, recreational activities, and community resources, fostering social inclusion and participation. Respond effectively to challenging behaviours, using de-escalation techniques, positive behaviour support strategies, prioritising the safety and well-being of all involved. Document observations, progress notes, incident reports, and any significant changes in behaviour or health status, ensuring clear communication and continuity of care. Collaborate with team members, including nurses, therapists, psychologists, and social workers, to provide holistic and coordinated support. Participate in ongoing training, workshops, and professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills in complex care, disability support, and behavioural management. While specific requirements may vary depending on the role and specialization, the ideal candidate for a support worker role would possess the following qualities: Be willing to work a minimum of 16 hours per week Hold the necessary qualifications required for the role, such as 6 months experience, a Care Certificate or NVQ level 2 in HSC etc Strong time management skills, ensuring efficient and effective task completion. Strong understanding of complex medical conditions, disabilities, and behavioural challenges, with specific knowledge of Acquired Brain Injury, Multiple Sclerosis, Epilepsy, Autism, and Physical Disabilities. Proficient in administering medications, both orally and via PEG, following care plans, and implementing behavioural support strategies. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trusting relationships and effectively engage with individuals, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
