Job Summary
The Neonatal Service Clinical Sister is a key member of the Senior Nursing Team within the Children's Clinical Business Unit and will provide accountable leadership and expertise to junior colleagues at the same time as assuring that the highest-level quality of care is provided within the Hull Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and Transitional Care area.
The successful candidate will be a highly competent, knowledgeable and visible practitioner setting the highest standards of care. The post-holder will ensure the provision of excellent, evidence-based care for all patients and their families.
Main duties of the job
The Clinical Sister will act as a role model to junior colleagues and be skilled in decision making, educating/sharing clinical and leadership skills and communicating clearly to all members within the multi-disciplinary team.
In addition to clinical aspects of the role, the successful candidate will have the skills and personality to have a positive impact on the working days of colleagues, recognizing openly good practice and effort whilst at the same time challenging practice constructively and supportively where necessary. The post holder will be expected to work with the minimum of supervision and co-ordinate his / her activities to ensure that an efficient and safe service is consistently provided.

Person Specification
Education/Qualifications Essential
* Registered Nurse - Child or Adult Branch or registered Midwife
* Qualification in Speciality - Neonatology 405 or equivalent
* Mentorship preparation programme or equivalent e.g. 997 / 998, or on live register of mentors
* Evidence of professional self-development
* Degree or equivalent level of education or equivalent experience.
* Competent in the use on standard IT packages and the aptitude to learn how to use new IT systems.
Knowledge, Training & Experience Essential
* Understanding of Information Governance and Confidentiality
* Safeguarding children's training level 3.
* Newborn Life Support course certification
* Ability to support and lead the team in complex and challenging clinical situations
* Use leadership skills to direct the team in the provision of safe care, informed by clinical information and evidence
* Clinical Expert in Neonates with a minimum of two years shift coordination in a level 3 tertiary unit.
* Experience in managing a team and individuals to achieve positive outcomes
* Experience of working in an MDT and across organisational and professional boundaries
* Excellent/exceptional interpersonal and communication skills (Emotional intelligence)
* Work collaboratively with the team and line manager to ensure that policies and strategies support service users, their families, and staff when making decisions.
Other Requirements Essential
* Able to fulfil Occupational Health requirements for the post
* Good sickness/attendance record in current employment
* Ability to adhere to the trust uniform policy and challenge staff on poor compliance.
