Job overview
The Deputy Housekeeping Manager is responsible for working with the Housekeeping management team to ensure the highest standard of cleanliness is maintained as well as deputising for the Housekeeping Manager when required.
As Deputy Housekeeping Manager, the post holder will be encouraged to voice their ideas to enhance and/or improve processes and procedures that could bring efficiencies to the in-house cleaning services.
The post holder is responsible for working with the Housekeeping Manager to ensure all aspects of the cleaning service are compliant with statutory requirements; working closely with the other facilities staff and managers to achieve standardisation of Housekeeping working practices, protocols, and procedures.
The post holder will be responsible for the ongoing operational organisation and service delivery of a range of Soft FM services focusing on Housekeeping & Environmental Cleanliness across the BSUH sites.
Ensuring a quality Soft FM service is delivered to all departments within the hospital and that standards are in line with agreed specifications and Service Level Agreements.
The post holder will need to be fully aware of the Trust’s Values and Behaviours and Patient First initiatives and act accordingly.
Main duties of the job
1. To actively assist the Housekeeping Manager in the delivery and monitoring of Housekeeping and Cleaning services.
2. To ensure standards are delivered through the effective management of resources, sound financial practice, and the correct processes of governance and risk management.
3. To deliver and maintain the highest standards against all legislative and best practice requirements such as PLACE (Patient Led Assessments of the Care Environment) scores, the National Standards of Cleanliness for the NHS, CQC, etc.
4. Contribute to service development, delivery, and business planning with the Soft FM Services Senior Management Team.
5. Identify and contribute to cost improvement (CIP) processes for the services and the wider benefit of the Trust.
6. Responsible for and to carry out risk assessments throughout the services.
7. To assist in the operation of the performance monitoring systems to ensure the highest possible standards are maintained at all times across the range of services.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
1. To manage Senior Duty Managers and Duty Managers within designated area whilst on duty.
2. To manage staff and all other resources associated with the services within allocated revenue budgets.
3. To regularly review the performance and effectiveness of each Senior Duty Manager, Duty Manager, coaching and retraining individuals where necessary in order to maintain the quality of Soft FM services in line with the National Standards of Cleanliness in the NHS and the Trust Housekeeping operational procedures.
4. To cover for/represent Soft FM Senior Managers at meetings as required.
5. Responsible for the performance management of the housekeeping services and meeting the set KPI’s and service level agreements.
6. Ensure that all additional works are funded by departments and recharged accordingly per month.
7. Ensure that site establishments are appropriately resourced to fulfil the needs of the service in delivering quality, timely, and safe services and forward plan for periods of business continuity to ensure bank/ad hoc workers are available.
8. Responsible for management of ad hoc projects as required.
9. Maintain good understanding of available new technologies and techniques relevant to the service.
