This is a post for cardiac physiologist to further develop their existing skills in both non-invasive and invasive areas of cardiac physiology. The successful candidate will be expected to work autonomously or with limited supervision in most non-invasive procedures such as ECG interpretation, Holter ECG analysis, and exercise tolerance tests. Cath lab exposure will be provided as well as an opportunity to progress and develop skills in cardiac rhythm management and cardiac devices.

Job description
Job responsibilities
1. Clinical proficiency in a range of basic / non-complex clinical and scientific investigations and treatments for patients with a broad range of pathologies. These may include the haemodynamic assessment, direct clinical measurements on patients, prescription of active implantable device therapies (non-complex dual and single pacemakers) and procedures involving ionising and non-ionising radiation.
2. Perform, independently interpret and report basic investigations (eg Holter, ETT, Carelink).
3. Perform independently as part of an MDT, assist with and/or contribute to interpretation and reporting more complex investigations and treatment (eg PCI, PPCI) under some supervision, undertaken indirectly for or directly with patients within a range of care settings in all aspects of cardiology.
4. Assist with and/or contribute to interpretation and reporting for highly complex investigations and treatment (eg PPM/CRT-P) under direct supervision undertaken indirectly for or directly with patients within a range of care settings in all aspects of cardiology.
5. Apply and promote evidence-based practice and use of relevant clinical protocols and procedures at the foundation / non-complex level.
6. Assist the senior physiologist in the delivery of the pacing clinics.
7. Acquire and maintain professional competence in the performance of all tests, investigations and measurements carried out under the band 5 remit. Interpret and act upon results of tests, investigations and measurements in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
8. Basic response, skills and knowledge expected for cardiac arrest situations. Basic core skills expected as follows:
o ILS or ALS accreditation
o Defibrillation and CPR skills
o Technical ability in the use of external or temporary pacing
o Technical ability in the use of intra-aortic balloon pump
o Ability to interpret ECG to SCST ECG diploma level standard
9. Comment and contribute to new proposals and protocols, especially for service improvements.
10. Assist with the procurement, acceptance and use of medical devices and consumables.
11. Be responsible for the safe use of some simple scientific and medical equipment (pacing programmers, ECG machines), including recording all maintenance and calibration procedures performed and any corrective actions undertaken.
12. Use devices, reagents, consumables, hazardous materials and equipment safely and in accordance with Health and Safety policies. Follow risk management procedures reporting of adverse incidents.
13. Actively participate in clinical audit and departmental meetings.
14. Assist with supervision and training of more junior staff, students and new appointees.
15. Attend departmental seminars and scientific meetings to disseminate knowledge acquired through study or research.
16. Shared responsibility for quality assurance and improvement of service.
After several years of ever closer working, North Mid and Royal Free London are planning to come together as one organisation to enable them to go further and faster in improving services for patients and the health of the local community than they can achieve separately. The merger of North Mid into the RFL group is currently expected to take place on 1 January 2025, subject to NHS England and Secretary of State approval.
