Salary £35,699.41 per annum
Permanent, Full Time, 40 hours per week

Within Care and Rehabilitation Services, the philosophy of our prisons is to rehabilitate offenders and equip them to re-integrate into mainstream society on release. We now have an opportunity for a Fire Safety Advisor to join our team at HMP Parc. The successful candidate will provide professional advice, guidance and support to the management team on all matters to do with fire safety across the Care and Rehabilitation Services business and to ensure compliance with relevant fire legislation and standards applicable to the custodial environment.
Key Responsibilities:
* Drive continual improvement in fire management across the business
* Assist in formulation and review of fire risk assessments across CaRS
* Provide expert technical advice and guidance on fire safety
* Act as the lead liaison with national fire authorities including the Crown Premises Fire Safety Inspectorate
* Identify areas of improvement for fire safety, ensure consistency of approach where applicable for fire management processes and monitor progress
* Complete regular fire inspections/audits to ensure conformity with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005
* Provide regular management reports on fire trends, audit outputs and other related information
* Complete and/or assist with investigations into fire related incidents, near misses and dangerous occurrences
* Develop, deliver and monitor training programmes to identify improvement and ensure all fire training is to a high standard
* Monitor the impact of all building works to ensure fire strategies are maintained and compliant with building/fire standards inclusive of CDM regulations
* Assist in bidding processes involving fire safety assurances and evidence of compliance
* Act as the main liaison with FM providers and other contractors on fire safety
* Assist in fire contingency exercise programmes (including managing high risk groups)
* Provide support to the CaRS Head, Safety, Environment and Wellbeing including deputising in their absence.
* Assist in the promotion of creating a positive Health & Safety culture across the site leading by example, this includes reporting accidents and near misses in a timely manner & follow the applicable safe systems of work for the role.

The Ideal Candidate:
You must hold the relevant fire training qualifications/experience and be a registered and qualified risk assessor (NEBOSH). With previous experience of fire management within a custodial setting you must have a flexible work approach and excellent verbal and written communications skills.
Membership of an approved fire competency council – Institute of Fire Engineers and Fire safety audit experience would be desirable but isn't essential.
