Position: Financial Resilience Officer
Salary: £35,235 - £41,511 per annum
Location: Honiton Home Working
Type: Full Time - 37 hours (flexible working may be considered)
Contract: Fixed Term - 6 months
About the role: East Devon District Council is committed to tackling poverty, and this creative role plays an integral part in aiding the production of the Council's anti-poverty strategy. In this interesting and varied role, you will need to think outside the box and source ways to support people who are facing hardship and living in poverty. This will include accessing discretionary funding as appropriate and working in partnership with other organisations including Citizens Advice East Devon, Department for Works and Pensions, Housing Associations, food banks, and community groups in the voluntary sector. If you are passionate about addressing the underlying root causes of poverty and motivated to help build solutions that work for our residents long term, we want to hear from you. About you: With a good standard of education (GCSEs or equivalent), you will ideally have knowledge of Welfare Benefits, Council Tax, and debt recovery legislation as well as up-to-date knowledge of Housing, local and national policies. You should possess the ability to review finances and budgets to help residents maximize income and minimize expenditure. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential for effective communication with a wide range of people, explaining complex legislation in a straightforward way and discussing sometimes difficult and sensitive situations with tact and diplomacy. You will need to be a team player and self-motivated to organize and manage your own workload while also possessing problem-solving skills to find innovative and creative solutions to the issues facing our residents. A valid driving license and own car are essential (reasonable adjustments may be possible according to the Equality Act).
