At Tarmac, ‘who you are’ matters. We want to get to know you. If you share our values and are proud of a job well done, collaborative in working well with others, and ambitious to make things better, then have a read of what we have on offer.
We are currently looking for an experienced Senior Transport Planner to join and lead our friendly team based at Bawtry on a 12-month fixed-term basis.
Here at Tarmac, we are working hard to create a dynamic and inclusive environment, and it’s important that our people come from a variety of different backgrounds; therefore, prior technical experience isn’t always necessary for success.
Main Responsibilities
Reporting directly to the Planning Team Leader, the Senior Transport Planner will support the Logistics & Transport Teams by leading the cost-effective planning of the transport schedules. You will be responsible for ensuring the business optimises its logistics capability to meet customer requirements through effective routing & resource allocation and reduction of uneconomic delivery profiles. Responsibilities will include the effective use of owned fleet and/or subcontractor vehicles, whilst developing strong working relationships with these partners.
A typical day could see you involved in the following:
1. Managing a small team of planners to meet the financial targets relating to all transport activity
2. 100% adherence to all Transport legislation and Safety protocols
3. Ensuring all policies, processes, and tools are utilised to plan customer deliveries with a high level of accuracy and within service level agreements
4. Addressing scheduling issues with the Fulfilment & customer service teams, providing solutions as needed
5. Analysing network performance and identifying opportunities for continuous improvement
6. Escalating issues where appropriate and implementing recommendations to avoid recurrence
7. Collaboration with suppliers/hauliers to identify synergies to either reduce cost or maximise utilisation
The Ideal Candidate
To be successful in the role of Senior Transport Planner, you will have previous experience in transport/logistics planning within a busy, fast-moving environment. You will also need supervisory experience as you will be managing and developing a small team. You will also need excellent organisation and communication skills with strong IT skills, especially of the Microsoft packages. Finally, you will need good geographical knowledge of the UK.
