NHS Tayside is looking to recruit two permanent BSL/English Interpreters to join the Interpretation & Translation Service. The Service provides BSL interpretation across Tayside, supporting Acute Services, Health & Social Care Partnerships, Primary Care, and independent contractors.
Our in-house BSL team is a well-established part of the wider Service. This is a unique opportunity to work with Spoken Language Interpreters, to exchange knowledge and experience diverse cultures and communities. We pride ourselves on being a collaborative and supportive team. Offering regular debriefs, reflective practice sessions and development opportunities, we support professional growth and wellbeing.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide professional BSL/English interpreting services.
* Participate in the on-call rota for out of hours.
* Deliver Interpreter Awareness training and advise on BSL translations.
* Work closely with colleagues to ensure accessibility to services.
* Deliver NHST BSL Local Plan in partnership with the local community.
* Travel throughout NHS Tayside to ensure service delivery.
Essential Criteria
* Recent BSL/English interpreting experience.
* Registration with SRLPDC (Scottish Register of Language Professionals with the Deaf Community) or NRCPD (National Registers of Communication Professionals working with Deaf and Deafblind People) as a Trainee or Registered Interpreter.
* An understanding of Deaf community and culture.
* Adherence to professional Code of Conduct.
* Ability to travel including travelling Out of Hours.
