Job overview
This is an exciting opportunity to join the multidisciplinary teams of the Stroke team and the Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus team at Nottingham University Hospitals, one of the leading establishments in Stroke and NPH nationally.
We are looking for an experienced Clinical Psychologist/Neuropsychologist to provide specialist assessment and intervention for adults with Stroke or NPH who are under the care of NUH. Candidates will ideally have experience of psychological assessment and care in neurological pathways, working with patients with cognitive, language, and physical disabilities. As such specialist neuropsychology expertise is highly desirable but not essential. The position is well supported and would access clinical supervision and support from within the Department of Clinical Psychology and Neuropsychology at NUH. The post holder will also contribute to departmental activities, including research and clinical governance as required.
The post will be based at the Queen’s Medical Centre site of Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.
Candidates must be registered with the HCPC as a Clinical Psychologist.
Main duties of the job
1. Provide a high quality specialist Clinical Psychology and Clinical Neuropsychology service to the Stroke Service and the NPH Service at NUH.
2. Participate in multi-disciplinary case assessment, discussion and formulation, highly specialist psychological and neuropsychological assessment and rehabilitation.
3. Advise the NPH team including Consultant Neurosurgeons on pre- and post- surgery neuropsychology assessment outcomes related to NPH patients.
4. Provide a specialist and comprehensive neuropsychological assessment, consultation and rehabilitation service to adults.
5. Be responsible for the direct care and rehabilitation of adults by the application of appropriate psychological skills.
6. Deliver pre- and post- surgery neuropsychological assessments and communicate assessment findings to the surgical team.

Training & Qualifications
* Postgraduate doctoral level (or equivalent) training in clinical psychology as accredited by the BPS.
* Attendance on a regular basis at highly specialist CPT/training events.
* Eligibility for Chartered Clinical Psychology status and registration as a Clinical Psychologist with the Health & Care Professions Council.
* Specialist knowledge, experience and/or training relating to communicating with patients with neurological disabilities and their families.
* Post-doctoral training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice and supervision.
* Qualification in Clinical Neuropsychology (or equivalent) or registration for such training.
* Registered on the Specialist Register in Clinical Neuropsychology (adult specialism).
Experience
* Working as a qualified Clinical Psychologist/Neuropsychologist with adults with neurological conditions or neurological injuries for at least 2 years.
* Experience of supervising and managing research and audit projects.
* Experience of working with stroke and hydrocephalus patients.
* Experience of conducting and interpreting highly specialist neuropsychological assessments.
* Working in an inter-disciplinary context.
* Experience of teaching, training and/or professional and clinical supervision to unqualified psychologists and psychologists in training.
Communication & relationship skills
* A high level ability to communicate effectively at both a written and oral level complex, highly technical, and clinically sensitive information.
Analytical and judgement skills
* Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management.
Planning and organisation skills
* Evidence of highly advanced planning and organisational skills.
Physical skills
* Ability to develop and use complex multi-media materials for clinical assessment and for presentations.
Other requirements specific to the role
* Up to date immunisations are required (including TB,HepB).
* Ability to drive between QMC and City Hospital sites.
