Position Overview:
We are looking for a dynamic leader with a passion for public service, community, engineering, and municipal infrastructure to join our Engineering Public Works division as Manager, Engineering Operations.
Role Summary: Reporting to the General Manager, Engineering Public Works, the Manager, Engineering Operations is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of multiple sections: Solid Waste, Fleet, Streets, Traffic Operations, Construction & Survey, Single Family Servicing, and Business Support. This includes managing staff, resource allocation, service planning, monitoring, and reporting. The role encompasses risk assessment; program planning, reporting and compliance; policy and procedure development; as well as both short-term and long-term budgeting. You will ensure the effective, efficient and safe delivery of Council-approved services and programs.
Additionally, the position is responsible for developing infrastructure renewal plans and providing operational input into long-range asset and service management and other corporate initiatives including legal claims, emergency response, and operating agreements with partners and First Nations.
Qualifications:
* Leadership: Proven ability to supervise, train and manage the performance of a large diverse team of both exempt and unionized employees, fostering teamwork, inclusivity and excellence.
* Communication: Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to provide clear direction, resolve public issues, and effectively communicate with senior management and stakeholders.
* Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with relevant by-laws, policies, regulations, industry standards and guidelines. Ability to prepare and analyze statistical data and present technical and policy issues to Council and the public.
* Problem Solving & Analysis: Excellent analytical, technical, problem-solving, strategic thinking and conflict resolution skills. Adept at balancing diverse stakeholder interests and managing competing priorities in a dynamic environment.
* Judgment: Ability to exercise sound professional judgment, especially regarding safety and politically sensitive issues.
A university degree in engineering, technology, business administration or related field from a recognized educational institution, combined with a minimum of 10 years’ experience in progressively senior positions, ideally within the public sector; or an equivalent combination of experience and education. A professional registration and/or licence in the field and a valid BC Drivers’ Licence is required.

Salary: The pay range for this position is $155,083.45 to $172,268.28 per annum (2024 rates)
Hours of Work: 35-hour work week (Compressed work schedule available)
