First Military Recruitment is working in partnership with our reputable client who is seeking a Product Safety Engineer to join their team in Denham, Middlesex.
This is an exciting opportunity that will give you a chance to promote proactive Safety Management and improve the safety culture. The successful candidate will play an important role in the continual improvement of the Safety Management System and ensuring safety objectives are achieved with respect to just culture, safety risk management, safety assurance and safety promotion. You will be supporting activities required in identifying and assessing issues and potential hazards which may affect product safety to ensure in-service products remain safe.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Supporting key safety critical Incident & Error Report investigations.
2. Identifying impact and establishing root cause of investigations.
3. Identifying opportunities for continual improvement in MBA products and processes.
4. Ensuring product safety through independent design assurance activities.
5. Supporting activities to promote just culture, hazard reporting, hazard identification, risk assessment and mitigation.
6. Participating in problem solving activities to effectively identify all root causes and corrective actions.
7. Reviewing the output of existing defect, Error, Incident and continuous improvement reporting processes to identify potential product safety hazards and implementing actions to prevent recurrence and improve safety assurance of future designs.
8. Timely and thorough completion of reviews of plans, documents and data.
9. Employing robust decision making and problem solving to issues encountered in all parts of the product lifecycle.
10. Establishing and maintaining product safety preventative action policy and assessing/proposing improvements to associated company procedures.
11. Ensuring the design organization establishes and complies with an appropriate design assurance and verification programme plan which recognizes the levels of rigour, independent checking and level of involvement of the certifying authority necessitated by the equipment complexity.
12. Compiling lessons learnt reports and proposing resulting potential preventative actions to improve the product portfolio.
13. Proactively identifying risks and opportunities associated with changes to regulation, airworthiness codes or guidance materials such that the company may continue to provide or maintain compliant product without disruption or disadvantage.
14. Managing customer, supplier and industry relationships in the field of product safety.
15. Undertaking any other duties and responsibilities as required/instructed in order to maintain and/or improve the safety, efficiency, quality and service provided by the Engineering Department.
Skills, Experience and Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree in a technical field such as Engineering or Science.
2. Experience of establishing a SMS or the elements responsible for safety risk management, assurance & promotion.
3. Substantial experience in use of problem solving or investigative tools and 8D techniques e.g. 5Y, 5W2H, Fishbone etc.
4. Good understanding of modern manufacturing methods and processes.
5. Good knowledge of materials and processes used in the aerospace sector or equivalent.
6. MS Office.
