University Hospital Southampton is delighted to offer a unique and exciting fixed term opportunity for a Senior Matron within the Neonatal Department. The successful candidate will lead this large and dynamic, award-winning department within our Women and Newborn Care Group.
The ideal candidate will have existing experience in leading teams providing acute clinical care, be a RN/RSCN/RM, and have evidence of ongoing professional development while aspiring to be a leader of the future.
Southampton is home to a large, regional intensive care neonatal unit with 37 beds, including surgical and cardiac specialties, and a retrieval and transfer service. We also provide care in the community from a dedicated home team.
Princess Anne Hospital (PAH), where the Neonatal Unit is situated, is a center of excellence for maternity care and a regional center for fetal, maternal, and neonatal medicine. UHS also has pediatric intensive care provision, and we work in close partnership with them in managing workflow. The unit's planned expansion has recently completed, which includes a separate nurse-led special care ward as part of services.
There is a focus on neonatal research in the department, and we are currently involved with several national and international trials. We employ separate research nurses for recruitment and management of the research projects. We have an established quality improvement agenda and are always looking for ways to improve how we work and deliver our care.
