Job summary The Trust's Stroke Department in the Directorate of Elderly Care, Stroke and Rehabilitation falls under the remit of the Speciality Medicine Collaborative. There are currently approximately 700 patients for North Cumbria each year with a discharge diagnosis of stroke. Approximately 20 patients per week are seen in the Neurovascular clinic at Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle (CIC). The Trust has a Hyper-Acute Stroke Unit (HASU) at the Cumberland Infirmary site, which comprises of a 10 bedded HAS unit at CIC, with 25 acute and rehabilitation beds and a further 15 acute and rehabilitation beds at WCH. Successful candidates will join the established team and have the opportunity to contribute to the further establishment of a high quality stroke service across North Cumbria. A 7 day service model allows the delivery of 7 day stroke/TIA clinics which will rapidly speed up diagnosis and therapeutic intervention, and will provide an integrated pathway into community services.' Main duties of the job We are looking to appoint dynamic and forward-thinking Consultant Physicians with a special interest in Stroke Medicine to complete a team of six (including new appointments) within the Trust covering North Cumbria. The Directorate would equally welcome applications from existing and newly trained Consultants (on a full or part-time basis).
