The Science Technician will work closely with the Head of Department for Science, as well as the other science teachers, to ensure the smooth running and resourcing of our very successful, bustling department. All students in key stage 4 study Physics, Chemistry and Biology as part of their 'core' curriculum.
We are a small school with 390 students on role presently, as such we have a relatively small staff team, 49 in total - 31 with teaching responsibility. With a team of this size, we will expect our new member of the science team to have a 'can do' attitude, where we help one another both in and out of our specialist areas of responsibility.
Main responsibilities:
* Preparation and care of equipment and services to classroom activities - to include setting up and preparing for science based practical demonstrations
* Keep abreast of current health and safety requirements - ensuring that safety standards are understood, met and maintained by those employees and pupils who are working with technical equipment
* Support pupils and staff in the use of equipment and apparatus within the classroom
* Organise, in collaboration with the Site Manager, to repair and service equipment as required
* Oversee inventories of stock, breakages and disposal in line with best practice
* Maintain and develop adequate booking system for use of equipment
* Ensure asset inventory and departmental inventories are reflective of school property
* Review policies within department and make recommendations which assist the efficient and effective use of resources within the school
* Attend departmental and Health and Safety meetings as required
* Maintain and clean equipment within the department ensuring that it is in working order and safe to use
* Delivering, checking and returning stock from classroom back to storage
* Record monitor and re-order stock as necessary, liaise with finance department and suppliers as required
* Assist teachers and the Head of Department
Applicants must have a working knowledge of current relevant Health and Safety Legislation, for example COSHH, CLEAPSS, Manual Handling.

Salary range £24,500 - £27,081 FTE (pro rata, term time only)
