The Performance Team provides high-level performance figures and analytics of the drivers of the performance across funds and mandates managed by M&G. The company has assets under management covering Equities, Fixed Income, Multi Asset and Property product classes. It has one of the strongest brands in the UK in both retail and institutional funds and is one of the largest active investment managers in Europe.
Within Performance, the Performance Analytics Team seeks to understand and explain the drivers of Fund performance. This is achieved by reflecting the investment process through performance contribution (absolute) and attribution (relative) reporting. In addition, the team produces and presents in-depth Fund specific analysis, seeking to explain Fund performance by identifying patterns, behavioural traits and biases that can better affect future actions and behaviours.
Purpose Statement:
1. Responsible for Equity performance attribution, contribution and risk analysis which best reflects the investment process.
2. Ensuring all performance reporting requirements for relevant stakeholders are met through the provision of accurate and timely data, scaling up of current processes and advancing using technology wherever possible.
3. Contributing to group theorising and testing of new performance analytics ideas and initiatives.
4. Remain client focused, responding to ad hoc requests and considering scalable solutions as and when necessary. Be proactive in client engagement to ensure the team focus is aligned to stakeholder requirements.
5. Responsible for the data quality and reporting of analysis of the underlying investments in portfolios, reducing data verification and dependency on us to correct data issues.
6. Develops, with Client Services, performance analytics reflecting the investment process for use by Distribution and within client reporting presentations.
7. Appropriately supporting their Manager and the Head of Performance.
Essential Experience
* A strong understanding of Equity performance attribution methodology, with the ability to explain the key drivers of performance.
* Strong performance measurement, ex post risk and attribution experience and with a desire to develop analytics that enhance the client experience.
* Strong operational and accounting knowledge to assist in resolving technical data discrepancies and performance data issues.
* Exposure to systems such as FactSet and BlackRock Aladdin.
* A comprehensive knowledge of investment products and performance measurement techniques (e.g. Modified Dietz; money weighted; performance objective measures).
* Able to evidence regular engagements with Front Office teams.
Desirable Experience:
* Additional knowledge of Fixed Income Return Attribution models will be an advantage.
* Experience of making use of technology and developing client-focused solutions.
* Targeting expert level knowledge of client requirements for performance measurement, GIPS, applicable regulatory legislation, appropriate analytical reporting.
* Familiarity with data visualisation tools such as Microsoft Power BI or TIBCO Spotfire and programming languages such as SQL or R would be a benefit.
