We are seeking a dedicated Senior Environmental Advisor to oversee all environmental aspects of the works on our Civil Engineering Projects, being our environmental point of contact until completion. This role will be based on our projects within the South West (England) area. Travelling will be required between the various regions so a full clean UK driving licence (manual) is also required. Candidates with ecological expertise and/or experience in environmental monitoring will be highly regarded.
Key Responsibilities:
* Adhering to and implementing WBCEL EMS on site
* Liaising with and reporting to WBCEL Ecology and Environmental Manager
* Ensuring that all statutory permissions are obtained as required (e.g. discharging Planning Conditions, consents, licences, permissions and exemptions) for all works by current legislation and guidance governing the protection of the environment
* Ensuring compliance with the project-specific consent, licences, permits and their conditions
* Ensuring compliance with the Construction and Environmental Management Plan and associated Management Plans, Species Protection Plans etc.
* Assisting WBCEL Ecology and Environmental Manager with the appointment of any Contractor-appointed construction environmental specialist
* Analysis of and reporting on environmental data collected as part of the Works
* Developing a positive environmental culture via training and engagement with site personnel and visitors on Site to increase awareness and promote timeous remediation/reporting
* Communicating statutory requirements and good environmental practices, principally via a schedule of toolbox talks informed by the works and recording non-compliance
* Overseeing waste management on site
* Ensuring the implementation of location specific Drainage and Surface Water Mitigation/Management Plans
* Ensuring environmental pre-works surveys are undertaken and environmental mitigation measures are implemented prior to any works commencing in environmentally sensitive areas
* Establishing and chairing weekly environmental meetings
* Undertaking weekly environmental audits on site and providing a related weekly Environmental report
* Attendance at project meetings e.g. consultation meetings, weekly site meetings, etc.
* Undertaking pre-works checks as required
* Preparing and issuing environmental permits (Wills Bros internal permitting procedure)
* Reporting, reviewing and inputting to RAMS, as required
* Implementation of project plans, method statements, procedures and protocols on site
* Identifying and communicating potential constraints to the programme in sufficient time to allow them to be mitigated
* Identifying mitigation requirements, overseeing and installing the mitigation
* Advise upon surface water mitigation/pollution prevention measures
* Implementing WBCEL Emergency Response Plan, if required
* Producing Environmental Incident Reports (if required)
* Liaising with statutory bodies in case of an environmental incident on site
* Identifying and reporting upon non-conformance and identifying and implementing appropriate corrective actions
Requirements:
* Proven experience in environmental management within construction or infrastructure projects
* Experience in an environmental advisory role within the construction industry (Experience with a main contractor beneficial)
* Recognised Qualification in Environmental Management
* Knowledge of environmental legislation, best practices, and regulatory compliance
* Experience in ecological monitoring and/or mitigation measures is advantageous
* Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
* Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise effectively
* A full UK driving licence (manual) and a valid CSCS card are essential
* Proficient in using a computer (Email, Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc)
